Both options provide access to our 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status and a values-aligned ecosystem of no and low-cost capacity-building resources. Model A — Full-Service Sponsorship Hands-on administrative and financial support Sponsorship Fee: 10% of sponsored funds (reduced rate above $250,000) Typical Minimum Budget: $25,000/year As a Model A project, Holistic Underground provides comprehensive management of all the financial, legal, HR and administrative back-end of your project or organization. This includes: Tax-Exempt Status: All income raised through grants, donations, or program work related to your mission are exempt from paying taxes. Compliance: We handle all your projects transactions in annual tax filing with the IRS, Department of Justice, Secretary of State, Franchise Tax Board, and any other applicable entities. Financial Management: Our team manages your bookkeeping, provides monthly reports, helps set up your budget, and meets with you monthly (as requested) to answer questions. HR, Payroll and Benefits Management: Hiring, Employee Law, Paying Employees and Contractors, Issuing 1099s and W2s, managing benefits (as your budget allows) Basic Insurance Coverage: You’re included in our comprehensive organizational insurance (note that some higher- risk activities may require additional insurance, at the sponsored project's expense). Specialized Banking Platform: You’ll receive your own account and debit card, with the ability to create additional accounts and cards, real time access to your transactions, make and receive payments with ease. Invoicing Ease: Pay contractors via ACH transfers, checks, wire transfers, etc. Grant Support: While you’re responsible for fundraising, we offer guidance on grant applications and reporting, and Model C — (Pass-Through) Sponsorship Model C — Grant-Only (Pass-Through) Sponsorship For projects with their own financial, HR, and administrative infrastructure that need tax-exempt status for specific grants or donations Sponsorship Fee: 6% of sponsored funds (reduced rate above $250,000) Typical Minimum Budget: $20,000/year With Model C, you receive grant funds through Holistic Underground’s 501(c)(3) EIN, which are then transferred in a lump sum to your organizational entity. We provide: Grant Eligibility: Use our 501(c)(3) status to apply for and receive eligible grant and donation disbursements. Templates & Tools: Access bookkeeping and reporting templates to support your funder compliance. While donations are tax-deductible for your donors and compliant for funders, your entity is responsible for managing its own tax filing and potential tax liability. Many projects work with a tax preparer to write off eligible expenses and reduce or eliminate taxable income (excluding personal income), but this varies case by case. You submit a W-9 from your entity, and we issue a 1099 to you and the IRS for total funds disbursed — ensuring full compliance. This option is ideal for projects that already manage their own back-office operations and only need limited financial, administrative and compliance support. What if we're still fundraising? If you’re in the process of securing funding and need documentation to apply for grants, we offer a preliminary MOU for a flat $500 fee. This is a tool utilized by donors and funders to provide assurance that your project will have an eligible fiscal sponsor before they make the grant or donation. We offer this to projects who are likely to meet the budget minimums listed above. If you move forward with Fiscal Sponsorship with us, this amount is deducted from your Fiscal Sponsor Fees.
