A Brief History of Holistic Underground.

In 2014, a group of artists, activists and healers started a collective in the San Francisco Bay Area. We sought to address the burn-out, cancel-culture, abuse of power and lack of creativity we observed and experienced in our movements. Through learning and listening, we began to experiment with the solutions we needed, and the community took notice. After hosting thousands workshops, events and fellowships featuring leading experts and master teachers, we began to receive requests from organizations locally, and later, from around the world - Malaysia, Ghana, Egypt, Mexico, Canada, and beyond. After working with some of the biggest companies and cutting-edge movements, we decided to create to offer an incubator and eventually fiscal sponsor, to make these resources more easily accessible. All along the way, our work has been grounded in the values of love, liberation, experiential-learning, community-building, creativity and integrity.

How Holistic Underground Works

Holistic Underground has given birth to a number of projects and businesses over the years. Some of these have left the nest, while others have remained as Fiscally Sponsored Projects, meaning they have their own leadership structure, strategy and goals, while HU’s team handles all the accounting, human resources, legal compliance and other operational back-end.

Our consulting and organizational development services are now offered under “PurposePlace™,” named for the bespoke methodology created by HU Founder Mazin Jamal.
